My painting medium is watercolor,  an art form that shows glowing, translucent colors that are exciting to see. The reality of painting is that it is paint, not a copy of nature or  anything else. It should look like paint, which is called a  "painterly" effect. I love the drippy, runny, splattered effect that only  watercolor can produce well. I also love color and try to have the color do something in the painting - vibrate, glow, contrast, harmonize, or  create a mood. Colors should look like little jewels sparkling when placed side-by-side so that they seem to dazzle and vibrate.

Paintings should be experiences  that the viewer has while looking at them. The viewer should be a participant in  the process, discovering more each time a painting is enjoyed. I like to see  some mystery in the painting in order to sustain interest over a long  time.

I paint many subjects -  animals, flowers, landscapes, fish, birds, still lifes - but most popular are  the Koi, a type of carp. This subject shows the color, movement, and pattern  that I really love.

Lately I have been working in acrylics as well as watercolors, using a palette knife to spread the paint and create a brilliant, bold and colorful effect.  Paintings in acrylic are in the Flower category of my paintings and are marked as such.

These paintings truly must be  seen to be experienced.
